The Town of Southbridge Sewer department is currently discharging partially treated wastewater into the Quinebaug River VIA Primary clarifiers. This discharge is due to heavy rain event sustained on 12/18/2023. The wastewater facility does not have the pumping or piping capacity to convey the wastewater through the process.
The discharge started 12:45 PM on 12/18/2023, and is currently still ongoing. Estimated discharge of overflow is 200 Gallons per minute.
Current flow rate of WWTP is 19.50 MGD; design flow is 3.77MGD.
Please Avoid contact with The Quinebaug River, and Bodies of water to the East "Downstream" for 48 hours after the discharge or overflow ceases due to increased health risks from bacteria and other pollutants.
